The moment nuclear plant chief WEPT as Japanese finally admit that radiation leak is serious enough to kill people.

Please don't think I am exploiting this man's obvious pain. I think it's important we all realize how truly catastrophic this situation is for everyone on Earth.

  1. Glad to see you're still at this. All the crap hitting the fan lately reminded me that I used to frequent this place, and that I should start again, even if I have largely sworn off the interwebz.

  2. I don't feel sorry for him. The whole world is being held hostage by the nuclear industry. Until our scientific overlords understand that humans are subject to the forces of nature instead of masters over them we will create disaster after disaster.

Humans think they have mastered the art of splitting atoms, and as a reward for their arrogance they are reduced to watching the wind-direction to find out if they should ever have children again or not. Does nobody see the irony in humans becoming subject to something they consider as trivial as the wind direction, when they fuck things up?

  3. Deft, good to have you back again.

D.R. Part of the reason for posting the photo is that this may be a pivotal moment frozen in time; the turning point for the worldwide nuke industry. The head honcho of the Fukushima mess having his "OMG what the fuck have we done?" moment. Let's hope it is.

  4. thank you, BR, great posts...all of them. I know nothing about nuclear power, except that it's a frightening huge powerful beast. Add in corporate profit, voila. too many variables; lying, cheating on construction, et cetera, building these monsters next to known fault lines - nobody worries, nobody cares. maybe that guy in the photo knew the Mark I's were unsafe to being with, they were old, shouldn't have been built on a known fault lines. maybe he went along with it, knowing that profits came before people. that this man-made horror was preventable. if it weren't for the self-destructive nature of putting profit over human lives. tsk tsk when will we ever learn.
