Dire Wolf?

I grew up in the Canadian North. I have encountered wolves in the wild three times, twice at very close range. Lived around them, tracked them. I have never seen anything even approaching the monstrous size of this. What the heck are they eating in Idaho?

    Holy Mother of god..looks like a bear raped a wolf...
    You'd need a one shot drop to take that monster down..ie 30-06 or bigger...

      Agree! Small minds are easily pleased. Would it not be fairer if the man hunted like a man,and did not use a gun, I thought it was only the Americans that were gun happy reprobates.

      I bet you guys can't figure out how to explain why hunting wolves for recreation is bad. If the wolf population remains healthy, which they are, there is no difference between what he has done, and you swatting a fly on the wall. They aren't going extinct from hunting, that's not possible without poisoning them. And Craig, you've obviously never hunted before. Why wouldn't he use a gun? (Many people use bows by the way) Using a gun to hunt is not "gun happy". It is common sense. This guy obviously hunts to feed himself, which i guarantee is more sustainable than the way you obtain your food, even if you don't eat meat. Everyone seems to think that because wolves are cuddly and cute, they are somehow different from other life. They aren't. If you eat meat, you're a giant hypocrite criticizing this guy.

    That looks like a dire wolf. They were thought to be extinct as of the last ice age. If it is truly a dire wolf would be astounding, and biologists would love to examine it.
